Pure silver is about $18 per ounce at the moment. Sterling silver is worth about $16 per ounce. Scrap silver is typically about 10% dirt, and a dealer needs to make a profit, so the best you can hope for is 3/4 of the spot price. Most dealers will offer you about half that figure because they don't care much about that business. A lady's ring typically weighs 1/10 ounce, and a man's ring might be some larger fraction of an ounce, so you need a collection of pieces to be worth enough to look for a buyer.
