Literary Legacy:
In addition to crafting hundreds of successful stories, Chekhov also wrote many plays, many of which are still often performed today with The Seagull, Uncle Vanya, and The Cherry Orchard, among them. Chekhov's short stories helped to revolutionize the traditional short story format and to introduce modern forms of fiction-writing. Unlike the traditional story arc found in longer fiction works such as the novel, Chekhov's stories did not always contain the conventional elements of exposition, rising action, conflict, climax, and resolution. For example, instead of having plots with carefully constructed action, Chekhov's story lines might just be sketches or impressions of a life. In his short stories, the author sought to show "slices of life" rather than a complete story arc. I love Anton Chekhov, who wrote a really good book. I forget what it is called, but he is a really great writer. You should be a fan of him too I'd say!!
I also love science!
Loons produce an organic molecule called oil in a special gland near the base of their tail. They use their beak to extract oil from this gland and work it through their feathers, giving them an effective waterproof coating. The oil that waterproofs a loon's feathers is one example of a lipid, a type of organic molecule that generally repels water. Lipids are hydrocarbons, a class of organic molecules that are made almost entirely of hydrogen and carbon. Turn to pages 38 and 39 of your reference book for additional information as you complete this lesson. (Not included).
And math!
A traffic sign before a bridge warns, “Weight Limit: 24 Tons.” The qualifying time for an Olympic marathon is 2 hours, 37 minutes. Water is liquid at temperatures between 0°C and 100°C. The internal temperature of a cooked turkey should reach 165°F before it is considered safe to eat.
In the real world, you will often have to evaluate conditions above and below a certain point. Inequalities are the best way to capture relationships like these.
