A SHIP IS GOING 2700 AT 12 KNOTS, THE CURRENT IS GOING 4 KNOTS AT 3150, WHAT IS THE ACTUAL DIRECTION OF THE SHIP and the actual velocity?
how to solve this question??

First is to draw the vectors on to a graph with +ve up & y=0 as your 0 degree, & +ve along to the right. I am assuming the ships heading 2700 is 270.0 degrees so plot the vector of 12 length along the x axis to the left from the origin. Then plot the current vector in a simular manor at 3150 (315.0 degree's? ).
You now break each vector into their x & y components.
Next step is to add the x's together & the y's together.
To plot this on your graph, then use pythagoras to get the resultant combined velocity & divide the new y the new x to get a tan value which you covert to degrees from x=0. Add this to 270 for your heading.
I do hope this helps, looks worse than it is just written down, becomes easy once you draw it out!
