Try to get his cell phone or his email address and txt/talk with him that way. Otherwise, just wait for the right moment. He won't always be surrounded by his friends so keep your eyes open for when he's alone.

Ask for cell phone or e-mail and if you need excuse say you want to talk to hime or say you need help with homework. If that doesnt work and he's never alone then aproach him and ask "can i talk to you for a minute" or "can i talk to you later in private" You just have to be brave and look for a time where theres not so many people
