Can I put my cats litter box on top of the dogs crate to prevent the dog from being able to reach and eat the litter? I don't have a room the cat has access to that the dog doesn't and a baby gate would be a big inconvenience to me.

I really wouldnt do this. A litter box is supposed to be almost like the ground outside. Cats veiw it just as the sand or dirt and it will not want to jump or climb anything to use the bathroom. I believe if you do this the cat will get confused and start going on your floor, believe me that is not good to deal with! Instead, I would teach the dog not to mess with the litter box. Anytime he goes to mess with it, scold him with a stern no or whatever you use as reinforcement. Make sure to continue to be on top of it. It might take a little while for the dog to become aware that he shouldnt mess with it but if you remain consistent he will learn. Hope this helps!
