... 18 month lease. we moved after six months due to monetary issues and both our jobs moving to a different area. We spoke to the landlord about breaking our lease and he said no problem, we would need to pay our last month's rent and clean and repair the place and he would see about getting as much of our security deposit back as we could. A month after moving out (and past the usual rent payment date) he sends us a text saying we need to continue paying rent until he finds a new tenant, and that we forfeited the deposit by breaking the lease. This is extremely frustrating as he told us we only would have the last month's rent to pay and we would get at least a portion of our deposit back.
He lied to us, what can we do?

Well when you went to move and he told you what he said about it was okay did you make the repairs and clean it and you never know how long it will take to rerent the condo. I would have took pictures of the shape of the apartment then a second set when you repaired and cleaned it. If they wanted to they could make you pay the rest of whats on your lease its basically your word agianst his i would take and start a civil suit agianst him and the owner.
