I moved to Socal in May of this year and my previous landlord in NorCal was supposed to return my deposit before I left but when that happened she said she had an emergency and if i could hold... 850.. I said ok that is fine (she was a great landlord) so two weeks later as she promised to send me my deposit back she said she was now in texas for a short vacation (maybe that's where my money went).. she said she would mail me a check or something and I was confused as to her proposal I offered her to go to a Wells Fargo and do a deposit would be much easier, she refused and said she would mail me a check. 2 weeks go by and I try to reach her but nothing. once I called from a different number she answered and said she had sent money orders..!? What the ... !? who sends money orders over the mail??? she said to be patient that they should be there soon. June comes in yet nothing. I try to talk to her in a good proper way because all I was asking for was MY MONEY BACK, I wasnt asking for free money or a loan. July I tried to talk to her to let her know I was gonna start taking legal action if she didn't get me my money so she made up a story that the money orders got lost in the mail and that she was talking to the money order company ? I told her I needed to have my money as soon as possible.
The other problem was, I switched my phone and all of our text messages where she gives me her excuses went with that. AND lost the contract when I moved so technically I have no evidence of anything. I have heard that you can still recover text messages but they do have to be court ordered? Or is there an easier way? It has been now over 4 months and she won't answer any of my other calls from different numbers.
Landlord does not want to pay me my deposit back... I was supposed to get my deposit on may 20th?
