y = x - 1
y = -3x - 5

You are given two equations of the form y=mx+b. The slope is represented by m, and they have different values of m, so they cross at exactly one point. The plot looks like this:

If they had the same value for m they would be parallel and never cross. If they had the same values of both m and b, they would be the same line.
