So sometimes after I've been sleeping for a while, I wake up and it feels like I'm being pulled into a dream or into sleep. I've never actually let myself be pulled into it because I don't know what it is or what could happen if I do let myself fall into whatever it is. I usually panic and pull my body in the opposite direction for about 10 seconds and then I wake up. Has this ever happened to anyone, or does anyone know what this is? It is lucid dreaming?
Is this lucid dreaming?

What you experienced is some sort of sleep paralysis. Check out the Wikipedia article about it. There are different forms of it, including one where the affecteed have their eyes open and due to that they mix up their visual perception with their dream perception, often resulting in a nightmarish hallucinations. Supernatural depictions of the phenomena in paintings from as early as the 18th century are proofing that it's been an issue for some people for a long time.
I experience it quite a lot, at least once a month, and to me it's about the same way you discribe it. Like you, I've been able to push myself out of it and wake up, so far. It' takes a lot of physical effort, though. Some people aren't able to fight against it. Some people just give in, and they report to have lucid dreams afterwards.
Even thought I'm glad to be able to fight it off I'd like to overcome my panic once, and give in. A lucid dream is an amazing experience. Maybe it will work for me that way, too.
Tell me about your experience.
