How sad when people entertain no hope beyond life in this present world. Paul at 1 Corinthians 15:19,32 wrote: If in this life only we have hoped in Christ, we are to be pitied more than anyone.
If like other men, I have fought with wild beasts at Ephesus, of what good is it to me? If the dead are not to be raised up, "let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we are to die."
This is the attitude of those who believe that this life is all there is. But there is a future. 2 Peter 3:13 speaks of a "new heavens and a new earth that we are waiting for according to God's promise where righteousness will dwell. Then the real life will be recognize under God's loving rulership.
To the person who is a body with a name, this life is all there is. But we know that the body dies, the name is destroyed at death. What happens to the one who departs? Don't we say he has passed away, he has departed or expired or moved on? Who has moved on, where has he moved on to? Therefore, death is not the end, it is just a bend that we have to transcend. There is an afterlife for most of us, most of us live as the ME, the mind and ego that performs karma or action. As the seeds decide the fruits on the tree, our deeds will decide our next destiny. We will be reborn and experience heaven or hell right here on earth when we take rebirth. Therefore, there is afterlife, but when we realize we are not the mind and ego ME, we are the Divine Soul, then we are liberated from an afterlife, we are united with the Divine.
