I want to download some content off of YouTube (for sound mostly and one video) to make an edit. I will not be using the full sound or video and plan to ask permission for anything I download, although that would be hard to do since not everyone leaves means of contact (which is understandable). Some videos I hope to download are from tv shows and multiple channels got a hold of them, so how would I ask permission when I’m not sure how they got the video? If it turns out they got the video illegally and I used it would I be doing something illegal? If I edit the video not for profit and if I give the person providing the video credit is this legal? How can I make this completely legal? I have seen many views on this and I just want to make content that follows the law. Thank you in advance and any knowledge or answer is appreciated.
Is this illegal?

If I gain permission to use a video is it enough to give credit and say that I was given permission or do I need ready proof attached to my video or proof available in case my content is copyrighted with permission included?

"Is it illegal to download music from YouTube for personal use?
But, it IS illegal to create a personal download conversion of a copyrighted work under US covpyright law. That includes an mp3, mp4, or any other download file type from your videos convert process. ... The safe bet is to avoid downloading copyrighted works, converting mp3s, or using video mp3s to enjoy YouTube.

As it stands downloading videos to a PC is an infringement of YouTube's terms and conditions. It is almost certainly illegal as well, if you do not own the copyright or have permission from the copyright holder or distribute and benefit financially from the download.

I have started asking for permission of use of videos from others channels. My main concern is that if the person I ask permission from used that video illegally does this mean I am fully responsible for the content I have that is illegal? I have no idea where others have their videos from and I have asked for example a channel for permission for use of a clip of the tv show they own. I don’t want to ask for a video that circulates YouTube unless it’s from the original owner because I do not know who possesses the original video.
