If it's long term and never goes away, the very BEST thing to do for the best results is to go to your local doctor and show them your acne, they'll write you a prescription. If you do that, you'll get a daily pill that you should eat before your last or first meal (it makes your skin tan easily also, for some reason), or they will give you a cream. Creams you put on at night. If you don't have insurance it will generally cost from 14.99 to 200.00. But for me personally, I use Clindamycin cream and it works very well.
Otherwise, as lame as it sounds, you'll have to
-try out facial cleansers to see which works for you.
-bring oil obsorbing sheets to blot oil while in the bathroom (if your problem is with oil)
-try Skin ID facial cleaner.
Try switching to a different treatment. A facial clensing cream and brush in addition to normal over the counter meds usually work better than just the OTC meds. Mild to severe cases of acne can be considered a medical condition and are something you should see a doctor about.
some are hormonal in nature and topicals really do not work. Trust me. As a woman all it took for me was go on the pill to get rid of mine. PS: Proactive doesn't work well for me either!! Go see a dermatologist...but be careful some try and sell you all kinds of stuff like their own line of cleansers, etc which tend to be very expensive. If they try find someone else!!
