Is salmonella prokaryotic?

I took microbiology in High School 9 yrs. ago and my guess would be that salmonella bacteria is pro not mono because a virus is single celled (mono) and although some bacteria probably are just clusters of single cells, salmonella is nasty and probably prokaryotic (although E. coli bacteria is worse, animals can ingest salmonella but if they eat too much E. coli it makes them sick). Then again salmonella has "mon" right in the name.
