Oftentimes, people seeking retaliation do so in an effort to ease the emotional pain of an offense. Focusing one's mind and energy on punishing someone who has wronged us can be destructive.
The book Forgiveness - How To Make Peace With Your Past and Get On With Your Life observes: " Rage consumes you. It consumes time and energy as you stew about your painful past experiences, internally curse the people who hurt you, and plot a way to get even."
How can a person be joyful if hated and destructive feelings are bottled up inside of him.
The Bible says to " seek peace and pursue it." "And to not let yourself be conquered by evil, but keep conquering the evil with the good."
Love " does not keep account of injuries."
Is it easy to forgive, not always. But, God forgives us only if we forgive people who do wrong to us.
Revenge is bad, because it comes out of our ignorance. We do not realize that we are all part of one Divine energy. Revenge is a negative reaction - to try to make good of somebody else’s action. People take revenge rather than forgive, because they think that they are different from each other: I want to avenge your action because I want to make good of the wrong done by you. Because I think that you and me are different. The moment I realize you and me are not different, we are one, we are part of one Divine energy, then these negative emotions like revenge, hate, anger, jealousy will disappear. The moment we let go of the ego, and realize we are no different from each other, we are like the right hand and the left hand, then there is no revenge, then there is only forgiveness.
