Yes, motivation is necessary to truly recover from addiction. Initially, if a person is forced to enter a drug detox or rehab program, he or she may not be motivated to get sober. But eventually, as their mind clears and they begin to adjust their behaviors and attitudes, they may develop an internal motivation that helps them fully recover. From their addiction.
I think that without motivation this process will just be harder. Because, in fact, a person won't have a purpose to continue getting rid of addiction. But also, besides motivation, you need discipline, of course. These two factors have to be connected.
