First off I dont smoke Marijuana. My friend's dad does and he has a brain tumor caused by chemical exposure during the gulf war. He says it helps calm his seizures and takes the edge of some of the medication hes taking. Anyway, I know alot of Christians believe Marijuana is a sin. I would presume that God knew what he was doing when he made Marijuana. Therefore he must of had a purpose for it. I dont know why he made it but he did. Therefore I have to ask why is recreational smoking of Marijuana a sin. Also would Medical Marijuana be considered sinful when given to a person with Cancer, Cerebral Palsey, Fibromyalgia, PTSD, etc... I'm just confused about this cause as a Christian we are to rebuke the devil and the things of this world that lead down the path of destruction, but how can we rebuke something people are saying is helping them? Is it honestly more harmful than other Prescription drugs on the market that cause cancer such as Prilosec, Aldactazide, Elidel,Cimzia, Vytorin,Gemfibrozil, Pravachol, Lipitor, Pioglitazone, Actos, Ambien, Lunesta and many more....Yet we don't say these are sinful and Doctors prescribe these all the time. You cant say its a sin cause it has side effects lol.

Your question is a good one. I believe that the distinction comes in the reason why a person would smoke marijuana. If your friend's dad takes it because it helps the symptoms of his disease, I believe that it fine. Of coarse, I am not the authority on what is a sin or not. Jesus is that authority. His word says in I Corinthians 3:16, that if you have the Holy Spirit inside of you, then your body is the temple of God. We should not do anything to destroy that temple. He says in Ephesians 5:29, that a person nourishes and cherishes his or her own flesh, taking care of the needs of their physical body. Therefore, if that is the case, we should not smoke marijuana if we don't have a medical need. There have been numerous studies done about the bad effects of this drug. You can also say that a person should not smoke cigarets. However, we are not the judge. We should condemn no one for smoking either marijuana or cigarets. Since you know these scriptures now, you should be the one to heed them. It is not our responsibility to tell others that they are wrong for smoking marijuana or cigarets. Most likely, they already know that they should not be doing these things. Let God be God. He will convict a person.
