Is it safe to use a steam floor cleaner like the Shark on hardwood floors?

Yes it is. As long as the floor is dry after. If water stays on hardwood longer than 10 hours it will rot.

I have a steam cleaner and hardwood floors. I've used it and it didn't cause a problem but in the manual for the steam cleaner, it does mention certain types of hardwood floors it can't be used on.

Yeah, That is perfect and very safe to use on hardwood floor. I have been using that and I am very happy with that.
