it really depends on if you trust this person or not. if someone has access to your router then they have a connection to anything connected to the router but its not easy to go into said things. is this person is a computer wiz then only give them the password if you trust them. Also check if your router has a guest option and if so give them that. PS. if they are smart enough to get into your things just by being connected to your router then they are probably smart enough to get into your stuff anyways so i wouldnt really worry about it.
Its completely safe. Giving someone your router password only gives them access to the internet while they are in range. It doesnt give them access to your computer. You would first have to change a bunch of settings in your computer to allow someone else on the same network to have access to your files. Even then they would only be able to view your documents and photos ect....they would not have access to online banking or anything like that.
Have you ever been to a hotel and connected to the free wifi? All the other guests at the hotel were connected to the same network as you and none of them were able to access your computer. The network at your house is the same way.
If someone wanted to hack into your computer they wouldnt need your password to do it...they wouldnt even need to be connected to your internet. They could be on the other side of the planet.
My family members come to visit all the time and of course want to get online...wether its connecting their phone so they dont use up their data plans or their laptops and tablets so they can watch videos and check facebook. I keep my password on a bright yellow piece of paper taped to the side of my router...that way they dont even have to ask...they can connect whenever they feel like it.
