I have a project in school that asks us to build a time travel machine. Our group decided to make a helmet and, trying to be scientific looking and sort of steampunky, I thought about a Jacob's ladder (spark gap) to put on the very top. The only concerns I have about that is if the helmet wearer would be safe with that much electricity flowing right on top of his head. I was thinking the transformer could go in a backpack or a fanny pack type deal, but I'm not sure yet as we haven't began the actual construction.

I wanted to know if it's safe to put one of these Jacob's ladder or spark gap on the top? What if we surrounded the inside of the helmet with a rubber coating? Or should we avoid this at all costs as the voltage amount is extremely high?
