I am writing a book and all the characters are named after fruits. I wanted to be inclusive so I have multiple characters from a variety of backgrounds including an African American character who I’ve named Honeydew “Honey” Gold. But now I am wondering if that is racist especially since I have another character who she hangs out with a lot named Melon and a honeydew is a type of melon. I am Japanese and so while I have understanding of oblivious racism I do not have an understanding of deeper, less obvious racism. If Honey does turn out to be racist and you have a name recommendation please note that the naming theme is (fruit) (related colour).
