Is it possible to call someones phone and it to hear it ring on ur end if its dead?

i called my boyfriend his phone rang once then went to voicemail then i called it again it rang twice then went to voicemail, then it just started going straight to voicemail. he said his phone was dead. is he lying to me? or is that possible

no its nit but i think what your boyfriend mean is that when your calling he cant pick it up because maybe he kinda busy  or what and when he about to call the battery is dead
