I started playing bass clarinet yesterday and I had tonnes of success with it, but now my thumb is numb where it was touching the thumbrest. I admit I didn’t adjust it before playing so is that the issue? How long will it be until I can feel it again? The clarinet is very cheap, by the way, as it’s owned by my school. I’ve been playing the regular clarinet for nearly 6 years.
Is it normal for my thumb to be numb for 13 hours after playing bass clarinet for the first time?

Yes it is possible. The constant pressing on the clarinet and factor the time you spent playing it. In addition your new to it. Most pro clarinet players put white tapes around their fingers. One example is video game controller you spent hours playing your fingers get numb for hours.
