... business that Google gave me didn't sell used tires. Even the company's I called said they knew that Google gave faulty information but didn't know how to change it. Technology!

The businesses put up the information that Google then picks up on. The phone book would just give you the names of businesses to phone, it is still online anyway, it just doesn't come as an actual book anymore.
By the way, hopefully you won't want used tires to put on your car for normal road driving- that is dangerous.
