My school recently closed abruptly. I really liked the school and honestly thought I'd graduate from it. I've been crying over it and I feel like that's not really a normal reaction.

Sure it's normal. If you had good times, teachers , friends, and memories and expected a specific
kind of future but now it is upside down and a huge change happening why wouldn't you be upset?
It's not just the school closing but a host of underlying questions that can and will, to some extent, change your entire future that seemed so comfortable previously.
Where will the next school be? Will you fit in? Will it be harder to get to?
Will all your friends be going there or to other schools? Will you need to make new friends? Are the kids at the next school already in groups and will they like you? What will the teachers be like and how do they grade?
A new school is like moving to a new house. It's a big life change for a teen. Everything was a known and now its an unknown. I totally understand the tears and think it's normal.
Just tell people you are excited to be at their school and having this new opportunity. Sound happy to be there it's not insulting them or their school which helps get you started on the right foot.
Very best of luck!
