My mom lived in a mobile home park. She died with no debts and all payments to the mobile home park current. Since my moms death I have not paid her rent for her space at the mobile home park. The home is paid off but the park is putting a lien on the house for the past due rent on the space that I didn't pay after she passed. They are auctioning off the house. My mom left me some other money in the form of cash. I am pissed that this mobile home park is stealing my moms house from me and I want to take a sledge hammer to the house before they auction it off. If the house is thus worthless and the mobile home park doesn't make enough off of the auction to pay off the past due rent can they come after me, the sole executor of my moms estate, to collect on their rent? The key to my question is that my mom was paid in full on her property at the time of her death and the past due rent has only been incurred AFTER her death because I her son didn't pay the rent. Can they come after her estate (me) to collect?
Is an heir responsible for debt incurred "After" the death?
