Hi,
I am in need of some advice from someone that knows how internet speeds work. Me and my family was living in a house where I could download at around 300-400 KB/s (which is pretty bad I know), we moved house and now I get an average download speed of around 180 KB/s. We are with Sky, I think it's a package deal, and our street does not have fiber optics.
My Mum phoned sky and asked that if she payed for a better deal, would it increase in speed, they said no because our street doesn't have fiber optics.
It doesn't sound right to me, because I'm sure I have some friends that only have copper wiring and get faster download than me. I'd be happy with 1-2 MB/s.
I just wanted to know if anyone knows the maximum download speed you can get with copper wiring?
We are wireless, but I have even bought a tried a cable and plugged it into the router but the speed doesn't increase at all, perhaps just gets a little more stable but that's all.
Someone please try to explain to me how it alls works cause I'm a bit baffled haha. Thanks!
Hello! Thanks for replying.
I not exactly sure, I'm not very technical.. And by copper wiring I think it's what the Internet runs through unless you have fiber? Not exactly sure if that's right sorry!
What's the difference between megabits and megabytes? I think I download at about 150 kilabytes per second.
