well, it certainly depends on the situation! But, what I would say, instead of that is first, acknowledging what was done. Second, tell the person you are not making excuses for what you did, or what they think you did. Third, tell them you never intended on hurting them, or disappointing them. And lastly, tell them you will just have to prove it to them that you will not do whatever it is they think you did!
