The Virginia militia (and George Washington) went to enforce the "borderlands" with the French territory. They encountered a small force near Ft Duquesne and opened fire. Later the French came back and forced VA to surrender. Later, Gen Braddock was defeated just outside of the fort in a rout. (2,000 British defeated by 500 French) Finally in a small raid, the fort was captured and renamed Fort Pitt (Pittsburgh) for the later nominated General Pitt.
