can a case be made for not allowing ordinary users to employ strong encryption tools in Internet communications? On the contrary, can we still claim to live in a free society if government interception of e-mail communications, as provided for in the Homeland Security Act, is routinely carried out?

No & things are getting worse & disaster if Obama stays in. He wants to do away with the Constitution & Bill of Rights & is in process of taking our guns. His agenda is forcing a Marxis Socialist Gov on us. We can win if Americans unite & impeach & vote out the bad politicians.Thank God we yet have good ones but now they may lose due to the media playing favorites & not giving them news coverage. You may make a difference.E-mail,write or phone your reps casting your vote & get others to follow.I have some webs of people getting petitions to Senators & Congressmen in protest of the evil. They have had a positive impact. So can you.Give it a try,as every vote counts.Even if you are not 18 yet they know you will be.
Hello Framabriti.
I'm afraid that internet and privacy do not combine very well. As internet revenues are mostly made on user data, privacy means no revenues and, in the end, no more internet. But hopefully there are a lot of people that care about digital privacy. Scooping on email, you can find very useful plugin or extension that will save your privacy (by encrypting your data). At Jumble we made a free tool that works great with Gmail and Chrome. If you need further details, please check out our site : www.jumble.io and see what we could do for you ^^
