In any kind of lan card is there an specific motherboard?

Ahh, a modem is quite different because there are so many different standards. Some motherboards had a 56k modem built into them but we're obviously a long way past that now. Most people seem to connect wirelessly (or directly wired from a router) so built-in LAN is suitable.
The other alternative is USB (which is what I do).
so why do i need to used that if we had a lot of usb right now?
You shouldn't really need it. If you've got it, it's because of backwards compatibility, but very few countries still use narrowband as opposed to broadband DSL.

and what about the lan card what is the real work of that in a system?
