Here's the text:
Once my friend was helping her grandmother on washing a big container in the bathtub, water couldn’t flow in because of the gap in between the faucet and the container. As she struggled with the task a thought flashed in my mind. I put a small container across the top to let the water flow in.
Please tell me if you understand my story and how I could word it better
Thank you
I'm writing an essay and I'm having trouble explaining a short story in simple terms?

What you have does not suggest any image in a reader's imagination.
"Once my friend was helping her grandmother to wash a big container in the bathtub. The water couldn’t flow in because of the distance from the faucet to the opening. I thought for a while and then had an idea. I put a plate between them so it would catch the water and overflow into the container."
You need to read novels. Lots of novels. Any novels. Notice that they all have perfect spelling, perfect punctuation, perfect composition. Notice where they use one space and where they use two. Notice that every speaker in a dialog gets a new paragraph, and every paragraph is preceded by a blank line. Notice any writing techniques or figures of speech. Take notes so you know where you found what you know. It takes a lot of reading to be a writer.
The question of one space or two originated with printers. They had "em" space and "en" space, the en being equal to 1 1/2 ems. Writers using typewriters tried to follow that system by using one or two spaces, but the practice is not known to everybody. Nevertheless, you will run across it and as a writer you should be aware that such niceties exist.
Thank you
