Hello, I'm writing a book that takes place in Santa Monica, California, and Mooresville, Alabama. Some things I make up, but I use real names of shops, restaurants, beaches, streets, Etc. I'm pretty sure I can use the name of places, as long as I don't use them negatively, but I'm more asking about specific stuff, like street names and menu items. Thoughts?

It depends. If its being published and sold then you might need permission. But if this is for a creative writing class or just for fun, then go ahead and use them. Streets and beaches will be OK. Shops and restaurants, maybe not because they could be a trademark of something. I hope this helped
Yes, that's a good point Jake! :D
I totally agree. :)
