... show. He is obviously a lawyer and essentially a partner in his firm but does anyone know what type of lawyer he technically is?

It's a tv show, he's whatever lawyer the current episode needs him to be whether it's environmental law, criminal law, libel/slander law, etc... It is not an intelligent show in regard to how legal practices actually work.
