You can eat whatever you like, it's up to you. Some vegetarians eat fish, it is actually morally more acceptable than eating eggs (eating eggs is actually like eating chicken, and is subjected to the same inhumane form of production). Eating ecologically produced is of course always preferred.
A vegan avoids eating anything from the animal kingdom. This includes avoiding milk, butter, cheese and other fat-based nutrition. Vegetarians however can usually decide how "hardcore" they want their diet to be. Personally, I think if you avoid eating pork, beef, chicken, other mammals and birds, you can call yourself a vegetarian without lying.
It is important however to eat green vegetables, like peas and broccoli, for your iron intake, and beans and soy-products for proteins. Nuts are also very good (NOT low-fat), as they contain a lot of important minerals and fats that you otherwise would get from meat.
Enjoy!
