I know exactly what you are going through. I was in a long distance relationship for a long time and whenever I went back I felt compelled to be everything that they remembered and that really stressed me out. You two are kind of out of sync since you have been gone a while so you don't really have as strong of a connection and that can be really scary because you still care for the person and you want to continue the relationship. What you have to realise is that he will still love you for who you are even if you say that you have to go home. He might be a little cross at first but he will understand after a while. If he doesn't than he doesn't deserve you and you should find someone who can handle the stress distance puts on a relationship.
