... small-ish dog (he's about 18 lbs) and own a home with a large yard. I am a little concerned with the reputation huskies have. Are they really impossible to train? I've had dogs my entire life, but they've all been on the smaller side. I work 4 days a week but always have someone walk my dog mid-day. I am totally fine with taking the dog for long walks both morning and night. I also have a dog park literally across the street from me. The rescue organization states the Husky I'd potentially be adopting is good with all size dogs and is relatively on the calm side, but reading all these things about huskies on the Internet has me scared. Any words of wisdom from anyone? Are they really impossible to train?

Huskies are independent, not untrainable. They don't need your attention all the time. The right reward will get the dog to respond to you. A "good boy" and pat on the head may not be enough. Furthermore, all the breed specifics are just generalizations. The rescuers want the dog to go to a good home and they won't try to sell you a dog you won't be able to control. Trust them. They have known the dog longer than you and will know if you can take care of it or not. Ask lots of questions and rely on the people who have been caring for it.
