I live with my mom so im under her rules. She baby's me and isn't allowing me to grow up. I work 2 jobs yet she wont let me start learning how to drive. She refuses to let me have my legal documents as she says she is worried ill lose them. She says as long as im living with her I cant drive. The only legal document of mine she actually lets me hold onto is my birth certificate. If I go to the mva with my birth cert and ssn can I get a permit? Is it illegal for her to hide me documents from me? Im 19 yrs old and live in Maryland. How can I get my permit being in a situation where I have a control freak mom? please help!!!!!!

No, what she is doing is not only wrong it's illegal. You are a fully grown adult, and even if you are living with her she cannot withhold these from you or not let you drive (and at 19 you get a license, not a permit). I recommend taking legal action to get these documents back and move out as soon as possible. I'm not saying you should totally ignore your mother, still visit her, but at 19 it's obvious she's not going to change from these habits and you need to take charge of your life.
Situations like this can be tough, the important thing to do is keep your hopes up. I guess for now save up enough money to live on your own for about 3 months (this could take a while). Or, you might know someone who will let you live with them for now (you could offer to pay small percent of income or pay back later, just make sure it's someone you trust). If you do decide to take legal action you will likely get some kind of compensation (and to get your documents you will eventually have to do this) but the legal fees will be expensive. I'm wishing you luck in this situation and praying for you!
At this point though I recommend you seek out advice from an actual legal expert, because while I'm fairly knowledgeable I have not studied all the laws in every area of the nation and I would hate to give advice that ends up proving wrong. I'm here for support though, but as I said, it may be best to seek out an expert.
I really appreciate your advice. I'm going to call my local law library tomorrow to see if they can help me. If it wasn't for what you said I honestly probably wouldn't have chose to take charge of my life like this. Cheers!
No problem! Happy to help.
I don't have enough money saved to move out the jobs I have only pay ten an hour. I think she'll try to kick me out if I take legal action. What do you think I should do? I'm really honestly still thinking about going through with it.
