I had leukemia and I had a bone marrow transplant. I got graft vs host decease. I was put on steroids straight away which I go avacular necrosis (servere arthritis) in my hips and knee; I am in a wheel chair. My doctor thinks I have to get my hips replaced. I am in a lot of pain and need strong pain killers. If I have this procedure what will I be able to do for work, what happens when they wear out. Im dreading what will happen in the future.

You're not too young, in fact the younger the better. The replacement hips should be good for 100 years or more. The surgery is well established and, if you live in the US or a similar modern western nation, the artificial replacements will be of the highest standard and quality. There is a period of postoperative recuperation and it is a major operation but you should easily cope with it and there will be a lot of assisstance available to you. The alternative is far far worse.
However, you should really be asking your doctor about this though. You may get a reply from someone here who has undergone the procedure at a similar age but I seriously doubt it as it is very rare for a person of your age to need it.
Ask if you can talk to someone who has undergone it through your doctor, I'm sure he/she can put you in touch with someone who has (or is about to).
I wish you the best of health for the future and hope you make a quick recovery.
I'm sure, but you can always go ask your doctor and I would encourage you to do so :)
