I am17 years old and I only been to the dentist twice in my life. I was about 6 or 7 and the dentist said I had one cavity. My mom never let me get that filled and instead she took my shopping and bought me candy. Fast forward about 10 years later my teeth are yellow and crooked. I brush my teeth everyday but in the past I definitely neglected proper dental hygiene and ate all kinds of sweets because my parents never really taught me good oral hygiene or took me to the dentist. I really wanna go but I’m so scared about what the dentist will say and even then their not gonna take me. Not to mention one of my tooth has been hurting for years and how sensitive my teeth have gotten to sugar. Im so insecure and i want to go to the dentist but I dont. Bottom line is i know dentist are expensive but you think once I turn 18 there is a chance I can book an appointment by myself without my parents knowing?

I wouldn’t wait until you’re 18, because by then you won’t have medical insurance. You should try talking your parents or another close family member into getting you in to see a dentist before your birthday comes. It’s always better to do it now rather than later, because later might never come.
