The gift was a laptop the gift was given to my spouse,she's given it away,now that I can use the computer for study related matters,music and online schooling,mind you she has never used it for herself jjust gave it away

depends on what the gift is, the value of the gift, and for what occasion.
in your case i think if she wasn't in need of your gift then she should have come and told you and you could have decided on a more suitable present.
Was it a gift out of the blue or for a special occasion? Because if it was for a birthday or Christmas, etc., i don't think she should have given it away. Hope this helps you :)
