If we evolved from chimps, why are there still chimps & humans but no inbetween mutants?

We didn't evolve from Chimps. All Primates had a common ancestor. The specimen some hundred thousand years ago from which all primates evolved didn't even look like a chimp. It was some animal completly different from all primate representations today. And BTW: Our cousins (homo heidelbergensis, neanderthal man) were presumably all slaughtered by ... wait for it ... homo sapiens. Thats us. We really are a nice species.
