The candidate from the other party (2nd place in election), or the vice-president-elected?
If the president-elect died before the inauguration, who will be the new president?

Like devontae18 wrote, if President-elect dies after the counting of Electoral College votes but before inauguration (for example in this presidential cycle - between Jan 6th to Jan 20th), then VP-elect would sworn in as the President on Inauguration day.
Another similar outcome would be if the death occurred between casting the Electoral College votes and counting of votes/Inauguration Day (for example in this presidential cycle - between December 19th to Jan 6th/20th), then it would be VP-elect as along as Electoral College voted VP and President-elect as the election results dictated.
The other scenario since president-elect is a term used after the popular election is if the death occurred between the election and casting of the Electoral College votes (between Nov 8th/9th to December 19th), then the Electoral College would have an unique dilemma - vote for the VP-elect to be the President-to-be-sworn-in on Jan 20th or vote for another candidate.
Thanks !
