If our borders and ports are so secure then how is it possible for so much drugs etc to get in?

I have been through both airport/boat port security & from what I've seen it should be almost impossible to bring these things in, especially the quantities needed for national supply. How?

Many drugs are smuggled in large volumes by drug cartels from the fields of South America past the thousands of patrol officers who guard the US border.
Also, you have to consider all of the dirty cops and things of that sort... the system is corrupt
