I have a brand new portable heating appliance that I want to put in my room. Where would be the best place to put it? (well, actually, it's a question noone in my class can get, so here's where it ends up...)

Ideally you'd want to put it somewhere where you get the most benefit from the heat it generates. Looks for areas in your room that may lose heat (windows, exits, etc.) Also bear in mind that hot air rises. The best place to put the heater is furthest away from where the heat will move to or exit from, i.e. low on the ground and furthest away from windows and doors.
Oddly another place would be where you normally find central heating panels, under or in front of a window. Why, well the design guide of the Charter Institute of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) advise that the rising hot air prevents the cold air falling off the window panes from collecting on the floor (similar to the thermal barrier like the electric blowers in shop doors entrances).
However caution should be taken not to place it near to curtains & other fire hazards.
That's cool. I've always wondered why heaters are placed under windows when the hot air rises up and can easily go out the window. I didn't know it could work as in isolator against cold air from windows.
