@bob The percentage halves with each generation. So if one of your parents is 50% Scottish that means you are 25% Scottish (not 0% as you suggested). Any offspring you had would be 12.5% Scottish.
In rocnrol69's case the child would get 6% Native American genes from the father and 6% from the mother, for a total of 12%.
First of all how do you work out that you are 12%? When I lived in England one thing that I noticed was that people always use to say about how they are half Irish or half Scottish or half whatever and then I would always say so is it your mom or your dad who is the Irish/Scottish/whatever and they would always so something like 'oh no it's none of them it's my granddad or grandma' then I would always think hmm well that would make your parent half and then you nothing. So really it confuses me and where you managed to get 12% from is quite peculiar.
