A black hole is created when a star gets so big that its gravitational pull towards its center becomes so strong that is collapses in on itself, becoming so dense that light, and matter can't escape. Matter is not destroyed in a black hole, it is compressed so tightly that it literally becomes a single point in space in the black hole. The reason black holes "suck" stars, and other particles in is because of how densely packed all the matter inside the black hole makes it. Hope this helps.
Black holes are entirely imaginary. The fundamental theory presumes that the black hole is the only mass in the universe, since any other source of gravitation would unbalance it and prevent formation. The gravitation suggested by the theory does not happen: Isaac Newton's Shell Theorem disproved that. The conversion to neutrons is nonsense. No such conversion has ever been observed, and besides, only certain combinations of neutrons are possible. They are called "islands of stability".
