Because of her beauty, other gods feared that their rivalry over her would interrupt the peace among them and lead to war, so Zeus married her to Hephaestus, who, because of his ugliness and deformity, was not seen as a threat.

So when Apgodite first made an appearance to the male gods, they all wanted her-even Zeus. Hera, being the godess of marriage who was married to Zeus-did not approve and was jealous, so she noticed that Hephstaseus, who was ugly and deformed, didn't care about her much. She put them together event though Aphrodite had an eye for ares and cheated on Hephstasus
