I am fairly new to the job, and wasn t trained on phone scams and whatnot. I am a cashier overnight, and was completely fooled by someone who sounded legit over the phone who said he worked with 7/11. He was asking about prepaid cards and told me to run some through the register and he d void them out. Well, obviously that didn t happen and now the store is out $500.56. I was completely unaware of this type of scam, and my manager says I have to pay for the loss out of my pocket and I am most likely going to end up getting fired because of this.
My question is, do I actually have to pay this money, or is my manager full of crap. This is like any other type of robbery that would happen, and I m pretty positive that they don t make the employee pay in any other instance of theft. Please help. I am freaking out because I don t make much here as it is, let alone have any money saved up.
I was victim of phone scam while working overnight cashier and the store lost $500.56?
