I've had my period for about a year & a half and its always heavy and I leak a lot. apparently tampons are so much better than pads and every month when I get my period I try inserting a tampon but I just can't do it! I know I'm putting it in the correct hole & I know that you have to insert it upwards but every time I try to put it in I get scared & it hurts mainly because I don't like the thought of something going "up" my vagina. Im going to bali soon and I'll be swimming a lot so I really want to learn to use a tampon before then! any tips?? - also I don't want to go on the pill or anything because I'm only 14 and can't afford it or anything. also, does anyone have any tips on how to make your period lighter? does exercising more or drinking water etc make it lighter? also, what are some ways to delay my period? eg. does exersising delay it or something like that? thank you in advance for the help!

You shouldn't be scared. As long as you do this you'll be fine.
You should change a tampon at least every 4 to 8 hours. Make sure to use the lowest absorbency tampon needed for your flow. For example, use junior or regular tampons on the lightest day of your period. Using a super absorbency tampon on your lightest days increases your risk for toxic shock syndrome (TSS).
I had the same problem as you when I was 14! It's a lot easier than you think.
Make sure you relax and take a deep breath. Start off with a very small size, it'll enter easier. You can try putting vaseline on the tip which will help it slide in, remember when pushing you are aiming for your lower back and not directly up.
Good luck, you'll have an amazing time in Bali!
