should i use Google, since i have Gmail for my Email. Or if there's another site that is better? obviously I've never had a blog before but I want to try it out.

There are many blogging platforms which are available now a day's, you can use any of them some are Blogger, TypePad, and Wordpress, Weebly, beeplog, blog.com, and many more. You can create your blog with your existing Gmail account.
